One of our favorite places to eat. We enjoyed music outside under a beautiful wisteria-covered arbor, then went inside and were greeted by a couteous and attentive staff. The warm rolls were delicious. My husband had the traditional Moravian Chicken Pie while I enjoyed the best rib-eye steak I've ever had. Everything was delicious. Unfortunately we've been trying other restaurants in town and none seem to live up to our memory of Old Salem Tavern. We will be returning soon!
I visited, this evening, with a large group, with pre-selected choices. Our offerings included:
Pumpkin-raisin muffins
fresh butter
rolls
Tavern Onion Soup
Red Salad
Chicken Riesling
Moravian Style Herb Roasted Pork Loin
Spaetzle
mixed vegetables
Chocolate Amaretto Pie
Lemon Trifle
The muffins and rolls were a bit dried out, the veggies were not remarkable. All of the other items were quite good. The Red Salad was a completely new experience for me; Red cabbage, red onions and Granny Smith apples tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette and topped with blue cheese and walnuts. Both the chicken breast and the pork loin were moist and tasty. Spaetzle is a dish that may be ho-hum to those who have it frequently, but I am always happy to choose it, and was not disappointed at this presentation.
The Chocolate Amaretto Pie was intensely flavorful; a deep, dark chocolate delight.
With thirty people, service is probably a bit short of snappy, but was acceptable
A charming and romantic place to eat. We have eaten at the Tavern on our anniversary and other occasions and always found it special. An old world atmosphere with excellent food and service. The outside 'alfresco' dining under the Wisteria vines, is an especially nice place to eat. Highly recommended.
